A. M. Vvedenskii. Chronicler of the Trinity Collection no. 805 until the beginning
of the 13th century: sources and characteristics of the chronicler’s work // Petersburg historical journal, no. 1, 2023, pp. 7–20
Abstract:
The article analyzes the sources of the unpublished chronicle collection of the Trinity Collection no. 805, which is in the storage of the RSL. Two sources are identified — the main and additional. The sources are scrutinized from the beginning of the dated narrative to the chronicle article of 1209 (additional) and to the article of 1223 (main). The main source of the studied manuscript up to the article of 1223 was the copy of the Short Novgorod Chronicler in the edition, which was also reflected in the Chronicle of Abraham and in the Rogozhsky Chronicler. An additional source was some copy of the Novgorod Fourth Chronicle, but not the Golitsyn one, as was supposed in historiography earlier. As a result of the analysis, the initial hypothesis that the compiler of the chronicle collection of the Trinity Assembly no. 805 used the text of the Ipatiev Chronicle as an additional source was put aside. However, in the report about the calling of the Varangians, the compiler of the chronicle collection used a source that contained a text close to the Ipatiev Chronicle. The article shows that the compiler of the chronicle collection did not use an additional source in the area from 1036 to 1198. The article also analyzes the nature of the work of the chronicler with his main and additional sources.
