Abstract:
The history of Soviet prisoners of War in World War II remains poorly studied, but certain aspects of this history do not coincide with the next general line of historical policy every time and are doomed to oblivion. The research of modern Polish historians collected in the reviewed book and are intended to familiarize readers with this complex problem.

The collection of documents is a continuation of the work on the publication of official documents on the World War II and the blockade. Together with published documents of personal origin, the new edition significantly expands the source base for research on the history of the defense and Leningrad blockade. This is a unique, first, complete, specific publication of the most important documents of the highest regional authorities and administration, almost all of which (98%) were previously kept in secret. The published documents make it possible to study the most important issues of military production, the supply and distribution of food, the management of Leningrad and the Leningrad Region, the economy and urban economy, etc.

PHJ No1 (37) 2023 – A.M.Vvedenskii. Chronicler of the Trinity Collection No. 805 until the beginning of the 13th century: sources and characteristics of the chronicler’s work

The article analyzes the sources of the unpublished chronicle collection of the Trinity Collection no. 805, which is in the storage of the RSL. Two sources are identified — the main and additional. The sources are scrutinized from the beginning of the dated narrative to the chronicle article of 1209 (additional) and to the article of 1223 (main). The article shows that the compiler of the chronicle collection did not use an additional source in the area from 1036 to 1198. The article also analyzes the nature of the work of the chronicler with his main and additional sources.

PHJ No 1 (37) 2023 – F.K. Yarmolich. The level and quality of life of a Leningrader in the 1950–1960s (on the materials of the leisure sphere)

In the article on the basis of the materials of Leningrad of 1950–1960s such element of the everyday life of a city dweller as the leisure sphere is scrutinized. The author pays his attention to the number and geographical location of cultural institutions in the urban space, the variety of forms of recreation and their financial affordability. Having analyzed these aspects the article assesses the extent to which the altered standard of living of a Leningrader during this historical period correlated with the quality of his life. 

PHJ No 1 (37) 2023 – A.I. Rupasov. Soviet-Finnish negotiations on direct air communication, 1950–1960s

As long ago as 1945 the Allied Control Commission had authorised the Finnish side to carry out regular flights with several European countries. This raises the question why this permission was not followed by direct air traffic between Finland and the Soviet Union. It was only after N.S. Khrushchev’s visit to Scandinavia in 1964 that the Soviet side gave its consent for Aero to carry out flights to Leningrad. This article analyses the long-standing Soviet-Finnish negotiations on direct air links.

PHJ No 1 (37) 2023 – B.B.Pak. On the issue of diplomatic negotiations on the eve of the Russo-Japanese war of 1904–1905

This article highlights the course of Russian-Japanese negotiations in 1903–1904, analyzes the positions of the parties, examines the reasons for the intransigence of the Japanese side in the negotiations on the conclusion of a new agreement, studied the reaction in the ruling spheres of Russia to the amendments of the Japanese government to the Russian text of the agreement, the nature of Russian-Korean relations on the eve of the Russian-Japanese war. The author focuses on Japan’s responsibility for starting the war, showing Japan’s aggressive policy in Korea.

PHJ No 4 (36) 2022 – V.Berednikova. Materials of the Central State Archive of Historical and Political Documents of St. Petersburg as a source for the study of the partisan movement on the territory of the Leningrad Region

In article the information possibilities of the documents postponed in funds of the Central State Archive of the Historical and Political Documents of St. Petersburg which reflect the history of creation and work of the Leningrad headquarters of the partisan movement on the organization of partisan formations and control of their activity in days of the Great Patriotic War is analyzed. The analysis of archive materials will allow to estimate in a new way a role of the partisan movement in the battle of Leningrad and also degree of its efficiency, the reason of failures and disorganization at the initial stages of existence of the partisan movement and success achieved in 1943–1944.
